Don’t worry. I didn’t get lost out there in the big world of the internets. Life is busy and getting busier by the minute. The good news is photography is still happening. Working with film has been last months project. Pictures will be posted here later. It is 5:30 in the morning, and I am enjoying the sound of the rain as I sip my coffee. Working with html is not on the agenda right now.

This is a quick update to let you know that new images will be coming soon. I am 2 months away from a move that takes me to an adorable new house with an entire wall of south windows. Let there be light! Let there be lots of photography. Many food ideas are brewing in my brain. I am looking forward to sharing them here.

I had to do some testing tonight due to major camera card failure yesterday. I took several hundred images with (and without) the Argus yesterday at the old pool and park. the light was perfect there were so many interesting things around there and then i got home to upload them and NOTHING! All gray boxes. I have no idea what happened. I could look through the images before I got home but somewhere between the camera and card reader things went horribly wrong. I was on the verge of tears all morning. I won’t even mention the two people I told the story to didn’t even reply to my email with “man, that sucks.” or anything. I’m not calling them out on their lack of sensitivity, ok fine, I am! It sucked! With that I give you an image from today. It still works but does worry a little about when I have a real job. I can’t afford to lose pictures when someone is paying me! Might be time for a new card, or battery, or reader, or uploading two different ways before deleting. I don’t know.

The weather here in Iowa has become suddenly Fall like. It’s wonderful to throw on a sweatshirt and get outside, but honestly, I am not looking forward to Winter. I am a natural light photographer. I hate strobes and prefer continuous lighting because I like to shoot what I see. I don’t enjoy metering and measuring light. I trust my eyes. The only problem with that is that Winter light SUCKS! It’s harsh and only lasts for a few hours a day. My shooting drops off dramatically in the Winter. I need to work a way around it because I have a good momentum going right now and I don’t want the seasons to change that. I am sure my neighbors won’t think it strange that I put up a big white tent in my backyard in the middle of winter, do you? Except, it would be cold in the tent and I hate being cold. This might take some brainstorming.

I have spent the last two days cleaning up the external hard drive. It’s kind of embarrassing the stuff I kept on there. Photos out of focus, overexposed, underexposed, or just plain bad photos. I thought about sharing an example with you, but no. Too embarrassing.

I have a tendency to process the photos I like and leave all the RAW files in the folder. Good or bad. They stay in there taking up valuable space until one day I get the crazy idea to clean it up. I then spend a week weeding through files trying to figure out why I even thought that was a good place to take pictures. I mean, who needs 30 pictures of a train going by in front of your car. We have all seen it. Did I really need to take pictures of it?

I need to find a better way of organizing. I need to be brutal about what I keep and what I put in the trash. It is just so hard to trash a photo! I am not a pack rat. You will not walk into my house or studio and find boxes of old shoe string or clothes from high school. I can throw that stuff away without a hint of regret. I was in high school in the 80′s. You can see why I didn’t keep any of that! A photo on the other hand I keep forever. Good and Bad.

So my mid year resolution is to keep the hard drive clean. I left everything from 2007 since I am still accessing those files. Everything else is burned on cds and labeled. Yes, all of those files are in my trash on my computer. Yes, I am having a very hard time hitting empty trash. What if….but no. I will do it…tomorrow.
